Having had my bunker play described as A caveman trying to kill his lunch and a swing reminiscent of a broken toilet door swinging on one hinge in a storm, it was with some surprise that I found myself Club Captain.
I took up golf seriously when I moved to the Arabian Ranches 8 years ago and had every expectation that I would, by now, be the oldest Pro on the PGA tour. In spite of overwhelming experience and evidence to the contrary I still stand on the 1st tee with the belief that this time I will shoot par. I have yet to break 83 but still the expectation of that faultless round fuels my irrational obsession.
I am honoured to have been selected as Captain of the best social golf club in the UAE. I am truly privileged to represent a membership of fun loving and in many cases extremely talented golfers who, like me, count down the hours to the next time we cross swords on the hallowed turf. The Arabian Ranches golf club is so much more than a golf course. Its a place that nurtures life time friendships and where people come together in their shared love of this most brilliant game. Whether its the 1st tee or the 19th hole the camaraderie of the members of the Arabian Ranches will live with me long after my year as captain has ended. There is not another club in the world where this honour would mean more.
If during my Captaincy I am able to enhance the golfing and social experience of our members with a strong emphasis on fun, then I will feel it has been a success.
